This litepaper outlines the purpose, design, and rollout plan for HungerCoin, a purpose-built digital currency for food access and supermarket payments.

Introduction

Food insecurity persists globally despite large public and philanthropic budgets. Traditional distribution mechanisms face leakage, delays, and limited transparency. Blockchain enables verifiable, programmable funding flows with real-time auditability. HungerCoin applies these strengths to food access.

Problem

• Inefficient benefit distribution; administrative overhead and settlement delays.
• Limited retailer connectivity; fragmented rails and outdated integrations.
• Low visibility for donors and grantors into true impact and spend categories.

Solution

• HungerCoin (HNG): ERC‑20 token with a preferred merchant spend path.
• Merchant Allowlist: Only approved supermarkets and food retailers may receive POS payments.
• Smart-Contract Events: Purchase(payer, merchant, amount, orderId, memo) for reconciliation.
• POS & API: Simple payment-intent API + event listener to mark orders paid.
• Wallet UI: Lightweight web wallet for scanning merchant QR and paying in HNG.

Technology

• Network: Base (Ethereum L2) — pilots on Base Sepolia.
• Token: ERC‑20 with merchant allowlist + pausable safety switch.
• Integration: Web Wallet + POS API + on-chain events.
• Analytics: Purchases queryable by orderId and merchant.

Governance
